Hi all. I have my eye on the DC-AURA, which has a modified low oval neck. I have played several low profile necks, but never a modified low oval. I have seen the diagrams on the Martin website, but it's quite difficult to tell whether the modified low ova...

Both of my Smartwood models (M and OM) feature low-oval necks, as does my custom 0000-16FGEB (Full-gloss, ebony fingerboard/bridge). They are less V-ed than a modified-V, and have a nice amount of "cheek" to them that fills the hand very comfort...

As stated above, the Martin site has diagrams of all the shapes. But it sounds like there may be some confusion between low oval & mod low oval. I have both & the mod low oval has a slight V to it - but not nearly as much as the mod V. Tony, I hav...

So the consensus is that the Mod Low Oval is meatier than the Low Profile? It really is hard to tell from those cross-section pictures. Scott

I am a fan of Martin's low profile necks. The modified V causes me lots of problems, but I can get along with the modified low oval. I'd really suggest trying some of the various profiles out before buying. The neck profile - to me - is a really important...

Thanks for elaborating, Cass. The low oval being round and somewhat full but without a V, could be good news for Don, but that's still guessing. BTW, I think your C-shape is what I would call D, but this is subjective and tricky business. Anyway, thanks a...

Thanx, Henk. The hands may be a problem but money ain't. I'll willingly pay whatever it costs to get the right neck on the new Custom.Take care/Don

You are right, Henk - the Martin low oval (which I have on my custom 0000-28H) is really a C shape, more rounded like the shape of a C. I'm not sure Martin builds a D shape which, as you say, is flatter on the bottom.Cass

Those pictures of the neck profiles never helped me much.It would help if they had the outlines of the shapes overlayed.Sounds like a CAD project. I just need some folks to send me guitars with the various neck profiles......

Cass, how much meatier is the low oval than the low profile? I always have difficulty understanding the pics on the martin site showing the necks as they are not all take at the exact angle or from the same spot, at least not the way I see it.ThanksAll th...

The problem with the pictures is that they're not identical in size, i.e. the distance varies. But if some handy photoshopper e.g. took the truss rod as a reference for size, perhaps he/she could come up with something workable, like "overlays"....

Joel, to me, the low profile feels more like a modern "fast" neck, almost like an electric guitar, although not as slim as that. It is very similar to the typical Taylor neck. But the low oval feels more like the vintage "baseball bat"...

Could it be the neck width of the 12-strings (1-7/8") that dictates which shape they get? I think most of (if not all of) Martin's 12-string models actually came into existence before the introduction of the low-oval neck profile, and low-profile was...

My 000-15S has the MLO neck, and I wish I had that neck on ALL my guitars. It fits my hand perfectly, and I can still use the thumb on the low E without discomfort.Best,Bob

I'm very small , 5.5" with hands comes with... With some chords with E thumb, my palm touch the high E string on my Art & Lutherie AMI. What do you think is the best neck profile and width for me? I'm only play country blues.
